Dekati PM-10 is a third-order impactor that determines the particle size distribution of particulate matter through aerodynamics. Working principle

The Dekati PM-10 is a series impactor that selectively collects particles of different sizes. Each impactor is a device with two collinear disks, one of which has a small nozzle. The aerosol sample passes through this nozzle at a high speed and makes a sudden turn with the airflow between the two plates. Due to the large inertia of the particles, they were unable to move with the airflow and instead collided with the second layer board. Some smaller particles remain in the airflow due to their lower inertia.

In this mode, an additional filter collects all particles with a diameter less than 2.5 μ m, and the particle size distribution is determined by weighing the mass of particles that impact each plate, or by analyzing the chemical composition of the particles.
